Who is KK Downey? | Patrick Kiely
Kanada 2007 | 90 MIN.

Who is KK Downey? is the story of two losers who want more than anything to be famous, popular, and successful. The only thing is, Terrence?s indie band is a joke, and Theo can?t get Truck Stop Hustler, his touching book about a young boy prostitute, published anywhere.  Things change, however, when they decide to print Theo?s book under the name of its fictional protagonist: KK Downey. The book becomes a sensation, with over-privileged twenty-somethings wanting desperately to identify with the tragic figure. Things have turned around for Terrence, who poses as the enigmatic KK, but at what price? Who is KK Downey? is a hilarious examination of media hype and hipster ideology as told by acclaimed Montreal comedy group Kidnapper Films.

Nothing really matters | Jean-Marc Piche
Kanada 2008 | 105 MIN.

Nothing Really Matters tells the story of Leo (Yannick Bisson), a 37-year-old man who has been lying in his bathtub for over 12 hours, a razorblade at the ready. Although he’s been trapped in his apartment for the last two years, unable to face the world on the outside, somehow he met and fell in love with the vibrant Carly (Pascale Bussières), who is his live-in girlfriend. But Carly is growing impatient with Leo’s lifestyle and utter refusal of help, forcing Leo to address his issues as he wrestles with the knowledge that he will have to reveal a grave truth, which could mean the end of their relationship. As Leo wittily narrates his story, the events that have altered his life course are revealed through a series of flashbacks, eventually converging in the present.
