Fun on Earth | Jesse Gordon
USA 2008 | 16 MIN.

Evan is a loner, but a very good swimmer. He meets Leia at the college pool. There is something strange about her from the beginning, but things really take a turn when her face liquefies in the library bathroom. Evan manages to administer a remedy that brings her back to 'normal'. At first she lies about it. Then she tells him she is from a planet that is purely made of liquid -- as she is in her natural state. Because he is a good swimmer, she suggests that he come visit. Evan's mind is blown, but could this, in a weird way, be exactly what he's looking for?

The Water Bearer | Pascal Gelinas
Indonesia/Canada 2007 | 60 MIN.

While the West is battling it out with Islam, as bombs and killings break a fragile peace, this film follows the efforts made by the men and women of Flores Island in Indonesia, to re-invent their daily lives after 32 years of dictatorship. Amongst them, we find a Canadian, Gilles Raymond, in search of a code of ethics where action coincides with words.
Through the simple quest for clean running water, Catholics and Muslims work together to instil a direct democracy and sustainable autonomy. This is a road movie of sorts, the ancient Ngada warrior culture serving as a backdrop, where solidarity rubs shoulders with defeatism and generosity overcomes corruption.

WADE IN THE WATER - AN AMERICAN CRISIS THROUGH CHILDREN‘S EYES | Gabriel Nussbaum/Elizabeth Wood
USA 2007 | 60 MIN.

Through a passionate mixture of private videos, uncensored interviews, and school-day adventure, the children of New Orleans’ violent Central City neighborhood have created a riveting portrait of urban youth at the heart of an ongoing American crisis.
Through their own remarkably honest and unusual footage, we enter the kids’ shuttered housing projects, flooded homes and darkened streets. We discover a New Orleans that was a disaster long before Katrina, a place where role models are scarce and gun violence is normal. The children show you a New Orleans that adults are afraid to discuss, and that a film crew could never penetrate.
Wade in the Water offers a poetic and devastating look at life in New Orleans through the eyes of its children.
